Prepare children to be owners and masters of their own destiny
We are seeing huge shifts in the world. But rather than becoming anxious and fearful, parents should see these shifts as a golden opportunity to do something radically different. Less focus on going to college for the sake of just getting a degree. Less focus on getting a job just to put a roof over your head because these things won’t be enough anymore.
It’s more important now than ever before that children are taught: (A) the best ways to advocate for themselves, (B) how to identify resources available to them and how to use these resources to build systems that work in their favor, (C) and lastly, how to create, own, or master the tools and resources that will be integral to building the world of tomorrow – and we’re not just talking about technology, in fact, technology is the least important part of the essential knowledge.
The foundation of all their efforts will be their creativity and integrity and they will need both in spades. Therefore, every resource I have included in the list below is one that I believe will help young captains to think more critically, expansively, AND empathetically. Also sprinkled in between are a few wellness resources that are especially useful for young black boys and girls.
